Pictures from about 4:30 outside the Apple store on Michigan Ave in Chicago on the day of the iPhone release. I’ll clean some of them up later, I just wanted to get them on-line while they were still relevant.
NAR employees Andrew and Chad contimplate a future purchase.
The people waiting on the north side of the building.
Starbucks was smart and set up a booth/tent selling coffee to those in line and those walking buy gawking.
Not sure if this belonged to someone in line or not, but I just had to take a picture of the secured Segway.
Some guy was selling his spot in line, increasing the price as it got closer. I’d like to see his price at 6:01.

Oh the humanity! At least they released it in the summer so we don’t have to see the bundled masses freezing their ears off.
So did you buy a phone?? At first I thought that was a lot of money for a phone, but I was playing with a friend’s iphone the other day and overall Apple seems to have really done a good job with it.
Selling a spot in line- that is what America is all about- happy 4th of july!
Sara,
I’ve been avoiding playing with one directly so I don’t get into “must have” mode. I’ve tired of my Sidekick as they really haven’t improved it in any meaningful way since the first release. Unfortunately, I have 16 more months on my contract with another carrier. What to do, what to do.
As seen in the post righter after this one, I did play with on. Its all over now.
Keith, on Saturday after a brief demo I “drank the Kool-Aid” and bought one. My AT&T plan was not up until October, but they make it oh-so easy to re-up for another two years via iTunes. It’s crack for techno-geeks. Grack, creek?
