Its not just for REALTORS anymore.
We know how much fun you have at annual, its now their turn!
Many cogs make up the framework that support the Real Estate industry. As technology growth exponentiates, the techies working behind the scenes are playing more of a vital role with this day to day operation.
While in the trenches, I never felt as if I was in competition with another IT person from a competitive brokerage. In fact, I replaced someone that went to another brokerage, and needed to get assistance occassionaly. I did, however, really want to find a way to bounce progressive ideas off my constituants and learn some of their take on how new technology can be applied to the industry.
During my first trip out to NAR Annual I was hoping to interact with a subset of techies. See how they are implementing, exchange notes, and well, get myself out of the hotel in the evening. I found that there wasn’t a strong venue there for pure IT talent. When I came into CRT, I wanted to see if I could change that. Eventually make annual not only the event to come to as a REALTOR, but also as a Real Estate IT Professional.
With that, CRT is working on a new initiative for this years annual REALTOR conference - Tech Luncheon. We are hoping that this is the catalyst for more tech minded workshops and sessions in years to come.
So as a REALTOR or Broker-Owner, lets get your IT staff involved in this years annual. There is a lot that can be learned in understanding the industry, which can help them apply themselves more effectivly as a vital cog within your infrastructure.
We are also looking for feedback as to what may make a ‘Tech Luncheon’ worthwhile and other events and sessions that the true techie would get a lot out of. Maybe this is a good time to re-kindle TechTalk.
Chris, this is a great idea. We often bring a few of our engineers with us to annual and it would be great to have an event or two focused on implementors. I know there are often RETS related events for MLS executives but that might be a topic worth exploring in connection with the Tech Luncheon, particularly if there are a lot of IDX users involved.
Chris - Great idea. I usually go to mid-year and wander around the booths aimlessly - this will provide a good reason to be there.

Sounds good. It’s about time the RE industry get’s it head above water. I feel like we’re so far behind and the tools I need to do my job are just now starting to surface. This will be a good start, you can cound me in.
I agree if you have some good programmers on your team your customers should most certainly know about them. It seems like it is not only important to have a good techie on your side anymore, but also to have one that specializes in real estate then you have a definite commodity on your team. Use that to your advantage. Use everything you can to your advantage.
